Women Outlast Passaic In Thriller
North Branch, NJ - After trailing by only 3, 23-26, at halftime the Lions found themselves down 33-23 three minutes into the second half. From there the team would go on a 17-5 run to end the third quarter and take a 40-38 lead into the fourth. RVCC was down 54-53 with under 1:30 left to play when a driving Kerine Thomas found Tiana Presley for the go ahead bucket. The team managed to get a few stops, but only converted on 1 out of their 4 free throw attempts to take a 55-53 lead with 6 seconds remaining and give Passaic a shot to win or tie the game. The Panthers got off a contested three in the corner that just missed, and then two put back layup attempts that rolled around the rim, but never found their way through the hoop. The Lions were led by Rocío Martín Muñoz who finished with 19 points. Martín Muñoz has been an offensive spark for the Lions recently as she has registered double figures in 5 out of her last six games. Her 19 points tie her season high from last Saturday when she helped lead the team past BMCC. Tiana Presley was a staple again for the Lions on the glass all night long. Presley finished with her 7th double double of the year as she notched 16 points to go with her team high 13 boards. The Lions' leading scorer, Kerine Thomas, was at it again as she finished with 13 points on the night.
With the win the Lions improve to 9-13 on the season. The team returns to action on Saturday the 28th as they host the Monroe Bronx Express in a 4 PM tip off.
