Lions Clinch Playoff Berth Behind Girones Gonzalez's Big Night
North Branch, NJ - The RVCC Women's Basketball Team clinched a spot in the Region XIX Playoffs with a 78-70 win over Delaware Tech Community College on Tuesday night. The Lions got off to a hot start behind 4 first half three pointers from Maia Little and two from Judith Girones Gonzalez. The blazing hot start led to 52 first half points for the Lions, their highest first half total of the season.
Every member of the Lions starting five scored in double digits as Little registered 13, Brie Opdyke had 12, Micaela Etlinger had 10, Allison Seater had 13, and Girones Gonzalez notched 25 on the night. The 25 point outburst marks Girones Gonzalez's season high, the fourth time this season she's recorded 20 or more points, and her third straight game eclipsing the 20 point mark. The Lions led by as many as 20 in the second half, but Delaware Tech was able to cut the lead to just 5 points with under five minutes to play. Some strong forward play by Allison Seater and Tiana Presley helped the Lions control the glass and pull away in the final minutes. Presley had 6 rebounds and Seater had a team high 10 to mark her second double double of the season.
The Lions now wait to see who they will face in the first round of the playoffs. RVCC finished the regular season at 14-14.
