Cranford, NJ - The RVCC Men's Basketball team swept the Owls of Union County College in a pair of thrilling contests that both came down to the wire. In the first game of the two game series the Lions had a six point lead at the half. The second half continued to be a back and forth battle. With a tie game and 30 seconds left Val Julien hit a big 3 point shot to put the Lions ahead for good. Mark Daniels led the way with a double double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Rob Terry chipped in with 14 points and 6 assists.
Game two the Lions traveled to UCC and again found themselves in a tight game. Neither team was able to break the game open and both exchanged leads throughout the course of action. Union was able to build their biggest lead of the game of 6 points with 16 seconds left. The Lions made a couple quick 2's and found themselves down by 3 with 6 seconds left. After a missed free throw from the Owls Malachi White hit a buzzer beating 3 from 35 feet away to send the game into overtime. RVCC built off the momentum and were able to prevail 69-63 in OT. A balanced effort led the Lions to victory including 4 players in double figures. Val Julien provided 14 points, Malachi Gayton had 13, Dan Dextraze had 12 and Malachi White had 10.
