The RVCC Lions took both games of Sundays double-header versus Orange County CC. Game one was cut to six innings by mercy rules as RV beat Orange County 10-0, behind strong showings by sophmore arms Ray Nault (W 1-1) and Nich Pachamango. In game two the Lions overcame an 8-4 deficit to win 10-9. Sophmore utilityman Tommy Baase has a performance for the ages at the plat. Belting THREE HOME RUNS and driving in eight runs. Truly a performance for the books.
In game one the Lions scored six runs in the second inning. Freshman Andrew Kessler hit a thee run home-run to left field, Nick Sellitti hit his third triple this season driving in one, freshman third-baseman Anthony DeNora drove in another on his hit, Tommy Baase also drove in a run on a ground out. Nick Sellitti mashed his second home-run of the season in the sixth inning. Anthony DeNora went 3-for-3 at the plate, Andrew Kessler and Tommy Baase each had three RBIs.
Ray Nault earned the win for RVCC. The righty surrendered four hits and no runs over five innings, striking out five and walking three. Nico Pachamango threw one shutout inning to seal the win. The defence committe zero errors.
In game two Tommy Baase hit three home runs and drove in eight runs (ELEVEN total in the double-header) as the Lions won 10-9. Baase homered in the first, fifth, and sixth innings. His first inning bomb was a Grand Slam to dead center. His fifth inning shot came on the sixth pitch of the at-bat and brought the Lions within two runs.
The Lions took the lead in the bottom of the sixth after Nick Sellitti drove in a run on a single, Anthony DeNora brought in another on a Sac-Fly to center, and Tommy Baase hit a no-doubter to left driving in the final two runs.
Teodoro Garcia earned the win for RVCC. The improtu reliever allowed two hits and one run (zero earned) over two innings, striking out two and walking none. Freshman Anthony Claudino started the game for the Lions surrendering 7 runs on six hits over three innings. Joey Sanchez also appeared in relief for the Lions.
The Lions ran wild on the base paths with five stolen bases, Nick Sellitti stole two bags himself.
Raritan Valley continues their hot streak as they've won five games in a row and have a 5-1 record on the season. Entering the week RVCC sits in first place.
The Lions return to action this Wednesday as the welcome Monroe University-Bronx. The game will be played at Diamond Nation, 3:30pm start.
