Blackwood, NJ-Raritan Valley returned to the diamond yesterday, for the 2022 season opener on the road at Camden County College. The Lions dropped to 0-1 on the season as the host Cougars posted two big innings to pull away for a 12-3 win, in a contest shortened to six innings (due to darkness).
Starting pitcher, Connor Egan turned in the performance of the day settling in after a shaky start to strike out the last 6 hitters he faced. The early season contest was scheduled to be a full staff game and Casey Demarco, took the loss giving up 3 runs on 3 hits in the third inning of the contest, Demarco left the game with the score 4-1, and Camden would not relinquish the lead.
Chris Miller and Chris Nunez led the way at the plate for the Lions, each finishing the day with multi-hit games. Geoff Latham, Tim Wright and Willangel Rodriguez each drove in a run in the losing effort.
The Lions are set to host Rowan College of South Jersey, Cumberland County in their home opener, Tuesday March 8th at 3:00 PM.
