North Branch, NJ-- The RVCC men's basketball team defeated Howard Community College Saturday by a final score of 86-81. This was the last of four games in the RVCC Fall Classic this past weekend. The Lions played well and controlled the first half, and a 9-2 run in the final two minutes of the first half gave them a 47-35 lead. They extended the lead to 70-48 with 11 minutes to play, however Howard countered with a run to cut the RVCC lead to three with two minutes left. The Lions were able to hold on as freshman guard Kenyan Goodson iced the game with a free throw to put RVCC up four with 16 seconds left.
Goodson led the scoring for RVCC as he finished with 25 points and five assists coming off of the bench. Freshman guard Kevin Saylor scored 21 points on 9-16 shooting, and sophomore guard Zaire Robinson added 11 points. Saylor also grabbed six rebounds and added five assists.
The Lions shot 30-61 from the field to finish with 49% shooting, and played solid team basketball as they finished with 19 assists. With the win they are 4-1, and next up is a home game against Lackawanna College November 22nd at 7pm.
